AIGA Portfolio Day, San Francisco

27 May 2010 No Comment

So in the everlasting pursuit of becoming a designer, more than just a designer of sorts- I thought I’d register for the annual portfolio review day from the American Institute of Graphic Arts, “the professional association for design”.

I thought that being an engineer- I’d never get a chance at such personal reviews and feedback from powerful players in the graphic design industry. I have to say it was an amazing experience, with me ready to leave San Francisco for good- I gathered some courage and took my portfolio for review. As fate would have it, the randomly selected second interviewer turned out to be the keynote speaker, Joshua Swanbeck.

Who also happened to be the Creative Director at Apple Inc. His feedback? “You use Helvetica like you made it, dude.” For someone who didn’t belong there by background- I’m glad I showed up.

Thanks to Ahmed Riaz for pushing me to go.
