The gift that today brings.
I was smitten by the saying at the center of this image when I first heard it. I was going through a very tough phase of my life, confused about Silicon Valley, Pakistan’s violence and everything else in the middle. A coworker of mine, Danny Ryan, told me to chill out- and told me this. Apparently, it’s an old piece of wisdom but it was news to me. I was also obsessing over the Gaussian probability distribution for some reason, and messed around with the skew of the distribution in the Mac OS X Grapher and wanted to get pretty much the shape I did when combined in Adobe Photoshop. In each direction there are three curves, one for the past, one for the present, and one for the future. To get the past and future curves, I had to induce a skew- raising the question to myself: if I am to live in anything but the present, will I not be living a skewed reality? I’ve realized over difficult times that the only way to buy yourself peace, is to just live in the moment. It’s also a difficult thing to do. I think that as we grow older, our neurons and ‘brain connections’ become increasingly intertwined, and complicated. At times I feel like I’m looking at the bunch of wires under my desk- unclean and disorganized and a safety hazard. That’s when I want to just unplug them, clean up and plug them back in a clean, organized manner.
To do that to my mind- I think forcing myself to live in the very present is the way to go. It’s hard to let go of the past since it teaches us so much, and it’s hard to stop thinking and more often, worrying about the future. But let’s face it- everything only happens in the present. (Otherwise it has ‘happened’ or ‘will happen’!)
The curves’ edges need a little refinement. Oh well. Today’s a gift, so I’m not going to lose any sleep over that now, am I? I wish you all a pleasant day/night and the best after reading this. – Zen-some Sapuri

Hey Khurram,
Yes it’s one of those great sayings, you can only operate in the present. We spend so much time mulling the past and worrying about the future that the present, what we have, slips by.
I had a teacher at UCSC who would ask the question “what time is it ?” and the answer was “it’s now !”

Today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present
